NEC uses AI to analyze the trustworthiness of information and support fact-checking

TOKYO, Sept 13, 2024 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) is developing a technology that uses AI to analyze the trustworthiness of information on the Internet from multiple perspectives and support fact-checking. This is being carried out as part of a project under Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to develop and demonstrate technologies to counter false and misleading information on the Internet.Framework of the new technologyThe effectiveness of the technology will be evaluated by fact-checking organizations such as the Japan Fact-check Center(1) and mass media, including broadcasters, with the aim of improving its trustworthiness. The period of this demonstration project is from August 2024 to March 2025.Framework of the new technologyThe large volume of false and misleading information on the Internet has become a growing problem, and countermeasure technologies are attracting greater attention. Fact-checking organizations and media outlets that are responsible for disseminating highly reliable information are burdened by the large amount of labor that is required to determine the trustworthiness of information. NEC is developing a technology to support fact-checking by utilizing state-of-the-art AI, such Large Language Models (LLM) to analyze and judge the authenticity of content.Outline of the TechnologyThe technology uses AI to analyze whether content consisting of multiple types of data (text, images, video, and audio) is false or misleading. First, the technology detects whether images and other data have been processed, AI then recognizes multiple types of data and converts them into text. Next, LLM that specialize in false information analysis evaluate the text to determine whether the content is correct, whether the information has a reliable source, and whether there are any inconsistencies among the data (e.g., discrepancies between the text and video content). In addition, the technology creates reports in a format similar to reports and articles prepared by experts at fact-checking organizations. The technology also helps to improve fact-checking operations by enabling adjustments according to a user's instructions, such as deleting unreliable information or adding new information.Fact-checking organizations such as the Japan Fact-check Center and mass media, including broadcasting stations, will be evaluating the performance of the technology, aiming to improve its trustworthiness and for it to be available for practical application in FY2025~2026.Under the value-delivery model "NEC BluStellar"(2), NEC is transforming business models with cutting-edge technologies to help solve challenges for customers and society.(1) Japan Fact-check Center: https://www.factcheckcenter.jp/english-page/(2) NEC provides end-to-end services for digital transformation (DX) through the "NEC BluStellar" value-delivery model.

CBL International Limited Announces 1H 2024 Interim Financial Results

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 12, 2024 - (ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) — CBL International Limited  (NASDAQ: BANL) (the “Company” or “CBL”), the listing vehicle of Banle Group (“Banle” or “the Group”), a leading marine fuel logistic company in the Asia-Pacific region, today announced its unaudited financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2024.Financial Highlights:- Revenue: Consolidated revenue for 1H 2024 increased by 44.4% to approximately $277.23 million, compared to $191.96 million in the same period in 2023. This significant growth was driven by a 39.4% year-over-year increase in sales volume, attributed to the expansion of the Company's global supply network and higher marine fuel demand due to geopolitical factors.- Gross Profit: Gross profit for the period was approximately $2.72 million, a decrease of 32.2% compared to $4.01 million for 1H 2023. This decline was primarily driven by the reduction in premium sold to customers and led to lower gross profit per ton, which was partially offset by an increase in volume sold.- Operating Expenses: Operating expenses rose by 64.0% to approximately $4.12 million, up from $2.51 million in 1H 2023. This increase was attributed to higher selling and distribution expenses related to our sales growth, strategic expansion in the Company's supply network to new geographic areas, and the development of our biofuel operations.- Net Income: The company reported a net loss of approximately $1.62 million, compared to a net income of $1.15 million in 1H 2023. The loss was driven by lower gross margin and higher operating costs.- Cash Flow: Net cash provided by operating activities was approximately $2.30 million, a significant improvement from a cash outflow of $7.24 million in 1H 2023, reflecting better management of working capital.- Cash position: As of June 30, 2024, Banle's consolidated cash balance increased by approximately $2.29 million, or 30.9%, to $9.69 million, compared to $7.40 million as of December 31, 2023. This increase was primarily driven by improved working capital management. The Company also reported a significant increase in accounts receivable and accounts payable balances, reflecting the growth in its sales activities.Operational Highlights:- Global Network Expansion: As of June 30, 2024, Banle expanded its global service network from 36 ports at our IPO in March 2023 to over 60 ports across Asia, Europe and Africa. This strategic expansion has enabled the Company to secure new bunkering business opportunities, particularly in European markets where environmental regulations are increasingly stringent. The opening of the Company's new office in Ireland in late 2023 has bolstered our market coverage and enhanced local sourcing capabilities. Anson Receives Final Approval for Brine Extraction at its Green River Lithium Project

Final approval from State of Utah, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Water Rights,First State of Utah approval related to large scale lithium production at Green River,The approval process confirms the water resources and surrounding areas will not be negatively affected by brine extraction.NEWPORT BEACH, CA, Sept 13, 2024 - (ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Anson Resources Limited (ASX:ASN) ("Anson Resources" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that today the State of Utah, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Water Rights (the Division) confirmed approval giving A1 Lithium the right to extract brine at its Green River, Utah lithium project. This is a key step required for A1 Lithium to produce environmentally-friendly clean lithium to supply the United States and is vital to expanding the Country's domestic supply for the transition to electric vehicles and the decarbonization of the US economy. Importantly, the project will have a substantial positive impact on the local economy providing well-paying full-time jobs and contributing millions in taxes.Given the state's vast resource and mining-friendly environment, Utah has potential to become the largest clean lithium producer in the USA. A1 Lithium estimates initial phase 1 annual production of approximately 10,000 tons of lithium carbonate, enough to power 250,000 electric vehicles a year. "Utah likely holds one of the largest economic lithium resources in the USA and can become the Texas of the electric vehicle era. A1 Lithium's project could make Utah the largest producer of clean lithium in the country." Said Greg Knox Senior Geologist for A1 Lithium. Brian Somers, President of the Utah Mining Association said "Utah potentially has the largest economic lithium resource in the US located in the Paradox Basin and is currently one of only two states producing lithium. Utah holds the potential to be the largest producer of lithium in the country and we need projects like A1 Lithium's to achieve that goal."The construction of the project will directly employ up to 500 local jobs and ongoing operations have the opportunity to reintegrate the Green River community. "A1 Lithium's project will directly provide 60 high-paying full-time jobs for people in the Southern Utah community and can potentially create an additional 58 jobs in order to support the local community's economic growth. This project can restore the prosperity of Green River that was lost when the mining industry and military left in the 1960's and 1970's. It will be transformational for our community" said Mayor of Green River Utah, Ren Hatt. The process A1 Lithium employs to extract lithium is an advanced technology called Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) which is an environmentally responsible and sustainable approach. In fact, its unique aspects will help qualify the project as one of the cleanest and greenest sources of lithium in the world. The process uses dramatically less water than other lithium mining methods, produces significantly less carbon dioxide than hard rock mining and brine evaporation ponds, efficiently utilizes existing structures and land to reduce its footprint, and employs a closed loop process to ensure the efficient use of resources. Michael Swenson, a local consultant who was raised in Emery County noted "Clean domestically sourced lithium for EVs presents the single greatest opportunity to reduce the emissions from vehicles along the Wasatch Front. We should embrace this opportunity to use Utah lithium to improve Utah air, improve rural economies, and provide greater opportunities to live in rural communities like Green River."A1 Lithium's Green River lithium project is key to the US becoming independent of China's dominance in the battery supply chain. "If the U.S. is going to compete in the global minerals race, we must support the responsible use of our vast domestic resources such as those found in the Paradox Basin. With a proposed extraction process that is specifically designed to minimize impacts to the environment and recycles 95 percent of water used, A1 Lithium demonstrates why mined-in-America projects ensures that the U.S. supply chain start with minerals that are produced at the highest standards in accordance with the world's top environmental, labor and safety criteria." Rich Nolan, President and CEO, National Mining AssociationA1 Lithium's President, Bruce Richardson commented, "This approval to extract brine is significant as it is the first granted to a company by the State of Utah for the processing of brine for lithium extraction at Green River and reflects the quality of our project, our partners and our community support. Importantly, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality recently approved a underground injection control well for A1 which demonstrates that there is no connection between the brine that A1 Lithium intends to extract and surface waters including rivers and underground sources of drinking water. The process we have chosen to extract lithium returns the waste brine to the same formation from which it is extracted and is therefore a non-consumptive process, unlike evaporation ponds. This process has less impact upon the environment, which is one of our key objectives."Will MazeHead of Investor RelationsE: investors@ansonresources.comPh: +61 7 3132 7990SOURCE: Anson Resources Copyright 2024 ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com.

In addition to examining the gap between disclosure standards and actual initiatives, the Databook will also be used as a tool for dialogue with investors and research institutions that utilize it.2. Initiatives to reduce capital costs by promoting businesses that contribute to carbon neutrality and by addressing environmental risksIn response to the growing interest in decarbonization among customers and society, NEC is introducing a variety of environmental solutions, including its Sustainability Transformation (SX) consulting services, which support the formulation of strategies and roadmaps toward carbon neutrality and nature positivity. Specifically, in response to the intensification of natural disasters caused by climate change, the Japan Consortium for Adaptation Finance was established with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, Limited in order to expand the market for "Adaptation Finance," which promotes the procurement of funds by visualizing the effects of adaptation measures using digital technologies. In addition, to ensure a stable supply of food, NEC is expanding sales of AI-based agricultural support solutions through strategic partnerships that act as a new pillar for growth business.Meanwhile, for the third consecutive year, NEC has issued sustainability-linked bonds with KPIs based on the strength of its environmental initiatives, including its selection as a CDP "A-List (Climate Change)" company for five consecutive years, in an effort to reduce its capital costs. Strengthening Corporate GovernanceIn June 2023, NEC transitioned from a company with a board of corporate auditors to a company with a nominating committee, etc. By clearly separating supervision and execution, NEC has strengthened the supervisory function of the board of directors, while at the same time accelerating decision-making and business execution by delegating significant authority to executive officers.5. Continued inclusion in major ESG indicesAs a result of these efforts, NEC continues to be included in major ESG indices, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices Asia Pacific Index, the FTSE4Good Index Series, and the MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes, which is one of the financial strategy targets of the Mid-term Management Plan 2025.Guided by the NEC Way, NEC aims to create the social values of safety, security, fairness and efficiency and to promote a more sustainable world where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential.

The project, starting with a highly anticipated debut performance on September 18, 2024, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, France, aims to bring the universal language of music to the front page of global conversations about peace. Accompanied by the Béziers Méditerranée Symphony Orchestra and maestro Matthieu Bonnin, “Concerto for Peace” intends to call people to action, to stand up in their own ways to spark change for conflict-torn communities across the globe. A Masterpiece for Peace: Striking the Right Chord in a Divided World “Concerto for Peace” brings together musicians from diverse countries and communities to promote understanding through shared artistic expression. “The way I see it, music has the power to connect people in ways words often cannot,” says Harfouch. “Our goal is to use the power of music to create a platform for dialogue, reconciliation, and healing.” Apart from being the name of the peace initiative, “Concerto for Peace”, is also the title of Harfouch’s 17-minute composition, a collaboration with the equally prestigious musician, Houtaf Khoury. The timeless piece combines classical and contemporary elements. The magnum opus for peace will be performed alongside his other world-renowned compositions, such as “Save One Life, Save All Humanity” and “La Fantaisie Orientale”. The launch of “Concerto for Peace” comes at a time when multiple parts of the world are combating significant social, political, and environmental challenges. Harfouch and his team hope to address these issues by creating shared experiences that cut across ideological, religious, and national boundaries. Harfouch notes, “Through this initiative, we want to spark conversations that lead to meaningful change, delivering a global movement that celebrates our shared humanity.” With high hopes for the future, Harfouch’s ultimate vision is to make “Concerto for Peace” a global movement that showcases the beauty of music while contributing to long-term efforts toward conflict resolution and intercultural dialogue. “It is going to take a lot more than music to change the world, but it can definitely be a catalyst for people to join the movement for peace,” Omar Harfouch concludes. “Our goal is to create an enduring legacy, where music serves as a constant reminder of our shared humanity and the power of collaboration.” Further performances are scheduled for the Vatican, Italian parliament, Shanghai, and the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva.
